I read this when you had just written it. Now, more than two years later, I am finally watching Ted Lasso and everything you promised here is true. Thank you, Laurie - without you, I would have ignored Ted Lasso.
Is there any way to watch it without Apple TV? Or should we just assume it will eventually turn up on other services? (at this point I just don't want to give Apple any more of my money)
It means the world that you started watching this show just because you saw that it mattered to the men in your life. Thank you for that, and for this wonderful, affirming piece.
Aww. :) I may have to give in to peer pressure and watch this show after all!
Just also read the Sam Kriss piece linked from this one; and it seems to me both essays make entirely valid points, and I'm not sure you even really disagree with each other (except on the merits of this particular show). We need snarky ironic satire, and we need enthusiastic hopeful optimism. A cultural landscape without either one would be a painful place indeed.
Superb stuff, covers a lot of my feelings for the show. It's an antidote to toxic masculinity, but it's not any kind of easy miracle cure... it's about the importance of trying to be kind, to yourself and others. Thanks for writing!
Loved this piece, Laurie. Thank you for writing/sharing.

I think this is the best review of anything I’ve ever read.
I’m afraid that honour must go to the Mary Sue’s review of Jupiter Ascending. But thank you x
