I’m one of those grumpy grinches who usually dreads Christmas, but I admit it’s grown on me. I recognise the value of a winter festival to celebrate with your family, ‘halfway out of the dark’ as Doctor Who put it. Still hate all the consumerist stuff that comes with it though, and the stressful obligations of present giving. But the core idea is solid.
Thank you, this is fantastic! It reflects a lot of the things I think of since I first heard that many define the core concept of "sacred" as being "something set apart [from the rest]." So many things are wonderful and sacred and special, even to this (not actually that-) cranky atheist when thought of that way. Thanks for the reminders of how it can be such a joyous season!
Lovely. Thank you. That made me feel a lot less guilty about liking Christmas and magnificent religious songs. Even though I believe exactly none of the claptrap!
The photo, by the way, is me at the tiny fire festival at Wakehurst Place on the 23rd. Taken by David Boarder Giles. :)

It’s fun for the kids anyway…

A very merry Christmas to you and yours. Thank you for this, and for everything you do. You’re one of those people who make things better.
Merry Christmas, Laurie. Vermont today was gross, sleeting and gray, but the tree was lit up and the house smelled of baking.
Merry merry, Laurie. I hope you’re well!
