This week I drove down to Sussex, with a friend and a van and a lot of bubble-wrap, to move all my fathers’ belongings out of mum’s shed. It’s the preparing, cleaning and clearing and making space in my zone 2 flat which, if it ever manages to sell, will no doubt be on the market as ‘charming’ and ‘perfectly proportioned’. That’s exactly the sort of tedious chat about property I’d have loved to have with my father, but he’s not around.
